Yup on this day a year ago at this exact time I blogged for the very first time. And, yea verily, it were good! So good that back then I posted three times on the same day. Such profligence! Such joi de blog!
The blogging has been so wonderfully addictive that it ate my musings and possibly several novels I might otherise have written. Bummer. And yet, it’s so ace! So easy. So instantaneous! Why did I not start doing this years ago?
My first post, lo those many months ago, revealed the cover of Magic Lesson. So it seems appropriate that exactly a year later I reveal the cover of the third book in the trilogy. But it ain’t ready. Sorry.
Instead I’ll tell you what I’ve learned over the past year:
- If a post has no comments I’m unconvinced that it’s real.
The posts that attract the least comments were posted on a Sunday or were about the following: reviews of books no one’s heard of, women’s basketball, announced the arrival of other blogs, were short notices of events or interviews, or were just a bunch of links.
The posts that attracted the most comments started by disagreeing with Patrick Nielsen Hayden, were about publishing, cricket (but only when the ashes are on), Georgette Heyer or cruelty to animals.
The comments are the thing. Thank you so much, my regular readers, for all your smart, wise, silly, excellent comments over the year.
Here’s to another year of bloggery.
Yay! Happy first blogday.
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Jazzablog,
Happy birthday to you!
Hi Justine,
Just a quick note to tell you that I enjoy reading your blog; it inspires me to even greater levels in my own writing. And, that I had a blast reading the first two books of your MAGIC trilogy; am trying not to be bummed about having to wait for the third. Also had a chance to read Scott’s PEEPS. Please pass on how much I enjoyed that. I especially loved how he interspersed chapters about parasites with the story–really added a surreal, but cool element to what was happening in the story. Actually, it was the parasite chapters that convinced my “I hate reading” 13 year old to give PEEPS a chance. So happy to keep him reading. Thanks Scott!
Take care and enjoy your travels. Blossom
The comments are so the addictive part. I don’t understand how people w/o comments enabled keep going.
Scott W: Thank you, Mr Husband Man!
Little Willow: Thanks for all your support!
Blossom: Thank you. So glad you like not only blog, but also books! And I’m dead pleased it’s been a wee bit inspiring. Can’t hear better ‘an that.
I passed on your comment to Scott. He’s particularly stoked about your son getting into Peeps. Always a buzz to hear about the conversion of non-readers. One of us! One of us!
Mely: Yeah, I don’t get it either. What’s the point?
Happy Blogaversary! See you at WisCon!
are you coming to NYC?
I hope so
congratulations on a year of blogging!

I still haven’t decided whether blogging really stops me from writing more novels or just makes me much, much happier while I do quite a bit of the same procrastination I had in pre-blogging days….
Thanks all!
Jenny D: I was being a wee bit facetious. I, too, am a champion procrastinator. Blogging definitely feels like procrastination of a more productive kind. Or funner anyways. . .
Congrats!
And have a blast at Wiscon.
C.
Happy Day Justine! For me the best part is feeling like I’m staying a little more intouch with you. Oh and the living the peripatetic life vicariously is pretty sweet too.

You are all too too kind. I blush!
Shelly & Niki: No, you do not get to find out what I’m up to. This is not that kind of a blog! Hmpf!
Justine dear–I did say a little more in touch. Trust me, I really don’t want to know everything!
