No More Change, Please.

I went to drop off my dry cleaning at the really excellent dry cleaner on Pitt St that has been there since before I was born, long before, and it was closed, windows boarded up, with a little notice telling you to pick up your clothes at the shop next door. Not long after I went into town to buy a button—just one little button—I went to Lincraft which had a really crappy range and then I remembered Home yardage. Good old Home Yardage what’s been in the city since the dawn of time. Home Yardage had no buttons. They had no nothing hardly because Saturday is their last day of trading. And just round the corner Gowings is about to close, too. Nooooo!!!

I don’t mind restaurants closing. That is their nature. One of the fun things to do whenever I come home is check out which of my fave places to eat survived my five or so months away. Of late a surprising number have and yay for them.

But Home Yardage? Gowings? The good dry cleaners? Next I’ll be finding my favourite pubs are closing and pubs never close.

Anyways, I don’t like it. No more change, please.

    what about the cool button shop in newtown ? – Is it still there ?

    Newtown’s too far! And when I get there it’ll prolly be gone. Stoopid closed shops.

    You need to go to Nurses Walk in The Rocks, Justine, to a shop called Buttons Buttons Buttons. They have everything from the plainest to the fanciest.

    I second the recommendation for Buttons Buttons Buttons in The Rocks.

    Fabulous shop. Lots of interesting buttons.

    I see that you are more focussed on the button thing than my shock of the new horror of change trauma! None of you feels my pain!

    Thanks for the button rec, but, shall head to the Rocks forwith. Though if that shop turns out to have shut, too. I will not be happy!

    I do feel your pain. I came back from a several month stint in London to find both Home Yardage and Gowings on their last legs.

    And, although Lincraft’s selection is limited, in my suburb at least it was the only option. But both the Lincrafts I frequented in nearby suburbs shut up shop some time ago.

    But, in compensation, I did find a bead shop in Chatswood. So, you know, swings and roundabouts.
