About those South African cricket quotas

Tony Greig just said on Channel Nine that “South Africa’s cricket team has had a quota since Nelson Mandela was elected.”

Um, no, Mr Greig. South African cricket has always had a quota system. It’s just that prior to the end of apartheid that quota was 100% white.

  1. Mike Says:

Correct, Justine. My understanding is that the saffers don’t have a quota system now.
It was also suggested that SA’s next captain could be Hashim Alma. Cop that, Greigy!
Mind you, Australian cricket is not exactly a Benetton commercial, is it?
