Hey, guys… Justine’s web person here. I finally figured out what was going on with this — basically, WordPress used to automatically redirect the old feed URLs to the new ones, but it doesn’t in the latest version. I had upgraded WordPress on, you guessed it, December 18.

Anyway, I’m now manually redirecting those old feed URLs, and any subscriptions still using them should get a flood of posts… right about now.

I opened an LJ support request to get the feed URL changed as the old one doesn't seem to be working - hopefully that will sort it.

As noted above, http://syndicated.livejournal.com/justinelarbales/ comes through just fine. The other 11 subscribers and I don’t seem to have experienced any interruption.

Some of us LJ people wander into the bigger world of the InterWeb from time to time, but it is scary!

I use Bloglines for RSS feeds, and it did have a burp with yours a few weeks ago. I had to unsubscribe and resubscribe – I’d guess that’s when the LJ feed broke.

(If I remember correctly, you blogged about having some kind of troubles with the website at the same time. The two are probably related.)

I’m one of those pesky LJ peeps, but I hate LJ feeds and always read non-LJ blogs through Google Reader (*loves Google Reader*). I’ve had no problems with Justine’s posts with GR, so I don’t know why Harriet’s feed stopped coming through…

Actually, you have two feeds on LJ – larbalestier.livejournal.com (the one which isn’t updating), and justinelarbales.livejournal.com, which is updating correctly, because that’s how I’ve ended up at this post.
“larbalestier” seems to be using this URL for the feed :
http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/wp-rss2.php
And “justinelarbales” uses this URL :
http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/?feed=rss2

Also, on the “larbalestier” info page on LJ, it has the following syndication status :
Last checked: 2009-01-03 08:27:24 (Parse error)
Error Message: 404 Not Found

I’m not familiar with the details of setting up RSS feeds in (I’m guessing) WordPress, but have there been any upgrades or configuration changes made … around the 18th of December ?

If you are on WordPress you might want to consider using the LiveJournal cross-post plug-in which automatically sends everything you write to a LiveJournal account. I use it, and I think Jay does too. It is not perfect because occasionally LJ throws a fit and blocks everything, but at least you get an error message when it does. Email me if you want details.

Actually, it’s not just Livejournal – my Google Reader stopped picking up the feed as well. Once I realised you hadn’t stopped blogging, I had to unsubscribe and then resubscribe to get it working again.

I just followed your link and a link or two beyond it. It says there’s a parse error; every once in a while, for no reason I’ve ever been able to understand, LJ feeds will get a parse error. As long as the post with the error is still extant, the RSS feed doesn’t work. Once the post rolls off (generally when 25 posts have succeeded it) everything will suddenly come back as though it had never gone anywhere.

Afraid my RSS-fu isn’t good enough to actually do anything about it, though.
