You might like to try roll-over notes, in which the text the note is attached to shows with a dotted underline, and the note appears in a little yellow box when the mouse passes over that section of text. There’s probably a better way, but I use the “acronym” html tab.

xP but sadly the preview doesn’t work on smilies.
BUT SADLY, I STILL CAN’T GET THE CAPS CODE TO WORK. gah. it’s cursed.
