ON A MUCH (MUCH!) SMALLER SCALE, I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE YESTERDAY: FINISHED A NAGGING ACADEMIC ARTICLE THAT HAD BEEN GETTING IN MY WAY. DIDN’T WANNA, DIDN’T WANNA, DIDN’T WANNA . . . AND THEN PARTWAY THROUGH I GOT REALLY ABSORBED IN IT, ENDED UP LEARNING FAR MORE THAN I PLANNED ABOUT THE TOPIC, STARTED THINKING OF HIGHLY IMPRACTICAL TANGENTIAL PROJECTS/BOOKS/ETC.

I usually don’t hate what I write, just how I write it. I love my characters so much, and we’ve been working on this series for so long that it would be like hating myself if I hated my characters. It’s almost hard to do them justice…I don’t think I’m that great of a writer. I love to write anyway!

The short story I finished the third and (final?) draft of last week or so has me buzzing and chirping from the inside like the world’s largest cicada.

Now, if only I could get myself to stop LOOKING like the world’s largest cicada and return to my generally more acceptable human form. Still, even though I’m presently oozing bug juice through a tiny whole in my carapace, I remain excited and proud of my first prose piece for publication (all alliteration well and truly intended).

Buzz. Chirrup. Abuzz.

Now to expand the wee f*cker up into a proper novel.

Gak.

something i’m proud of? not particularly. but I’m superhappy with my current WIP because a new character has strolled in and solved so many problems.

I guess I’m proud of my current determination in finishing the WIP.

I turned in the final revision of my new SF novel “Marseguro” to DAW Books, and then sent three proposals for new books to my agent, who liked them and is submitting them. yay!

Oh, and I’m proud of having just finished reading a fascinating YA trilogy about kids with magic that they have to either use, and die young, or not use, and go mad. Can’t quite remember the author’s name, though…

I’ve been working on a new manuscript and I’m almost done with the first draft (I’m thinking two more weeks). And the best thing about it – I love it! Every time I think about it, it makes me happy And it’s so great to be working on something new (I currently have a trilogy written with book 1 coming out next year).
